can't.stop...just want to pin one.more.thing

Ok.

Pinterest.

Have you been?

If you don't want another venue to waste hours at the computer, stay away!!

Remember back in the day, when you'd find fun things in magazines, cut them out and put them in a binder. Say you were planning a wedding, perhaps before you were engaged - not like I would have ever done that - and you'd find a centerpiece idea, cut out the photo and paste it to the page with all the others...because heaven forbid that idea escape your memory.

Now fast forward...we have the internet. How does one cut and paste all those great ideas?

Cue Pinterest.com

Omigod!

Like seriously. It's the most amazing thing ever.

So you can just be reading a blog and see a cool project, pin it and it's saved forever. You're perusing Martha's page and need to remember how to make that such and such...pin it. That project on etsy.com that you're pretty sure you could make yourself, pin it! (Holy shit, could I be the Pinterest Spokesperson or what?)

The cooler thing than your very own virtual bulletin boards for every little thing you love and would die for...you get to see other people's bulletin boards...filled with the coolest of the cool this internet has to offer.

Anyways...this Pinterest. (Andy's so sick of hearing me say the word, so I'll type it again.) Pinterest.

You get inspired. There are awesome ideas for the house, foods, drinks, party planning, photography, outfits...I'm in love. I've already been to Micheal's to get craftin' on one of the inspirations for Emmie's room.

Oh and the even bestier part...you can't just sign up for an account...you have to "request an invitation." I mean it's basically like signing up, because they send your invitation a day or so later....but really, the anticipation of the invitation email is pretty intense and when you see the invite hit your inbox, your heart will flutter, I promise.

So yeah, that's what I've been up to lately. Now go, hurry up and request an invitation (or I can invite you too...because I'm part of the in crowd) because then I can use that fancy @ sign to pin things that make me think of you, or  would be great at the party I want to throw for you, or would be a fun gift to buy you.

Long weekend!

Oh my, who doesn't love a three day weekend?! Even if the weather is crappy and we were pretty much stuck inside, it's better than being stuck inside at work.  We took Emmie to the lake for the first time, dressed appropriately in her Lake Baby t-shirt from aunt Alicia.

Baby Kate (Andy's cousin Jess's daughter) was at the lake and the girls just hung out and played all afternoon...it was like daycare...but a lot quieter and with just super cute babies.  Can you believe this sweet little peanut is two months older than Emmie?  (And of course I had to entertain myself with baby thought bubbles.)

Pineapple Mango Salsa

Yum. Yum. Yum.

Whisk, dice and combine. A three step recipe...I can handle that! And a freaking hour of dicing later...I had salsa. It's worth it, I promise. (And though I'm college educated and consider myself not completely inept in the kitchen, I had to Google how to cut a mango. Tricky little bastard.)

Whisk these together:
2 tbsp olive oil
Juice of 1 lime
1/4 tsp salt

Then dice these:
1 mango
1 cup pineapple
1 tbsp jalapeno
1/4 red bell pepper
2 tbsp red onion
3 tbsp cilantro

And then combine them and enjoy!

As you can see, I forgot the red pepper and didn't want to go back to the grocery store...but I think it tasted just fine without!

Thanks for the great recipe Nanc!

This summer vs. last summer

Last summer I was pregnant.
This summer I am not.

Last summer I did not get to drink. Though I would grab a sip of Andy’s beer whenever possible, out of public sight, it never really quenched my thirst.
This summer I get to indulge in a frosty bud light with clamato juice, a big glass of wine, or a vodka soda whenever I please.

Last summer I did not have to suck it in. An entire summer spent just lettin’ it all hang out there…and calling it a bump instead of a gut. It was awesome.
This summer, I have to suck it in.

Last summer I had to take at least two days off a month not to lose my PTO.
This summer, well I burned pretty much all of my time off taking a 14 week maternity leave. So no extended vacations for me but, have no fear, there will be plenty of short days and long weekends.

Last summer I was buying clothes to cover the bump.
This summer I’m buying clothes to cover the babe! The rompers. The summer dresses. The swimming suits. Can we talk about how amazingly adorable baby swimming suits are? The ruffles. The belly hanging out of inappropriately small baby bikinis. The sandals. And the pudgy toes in jellies. And the baby short shorts just purchased at Gap Kids? The list goes on and on.

Last summer I was pregnant.
This summer I am a MOM!

This summer wins.

Letter to the blogger:

Dear friends who blog (and know I creep),

Please update your blogs more frequently.

You see, my morning routine is this:

1. Get to work
2. Put out any fires
3. Get coffee
4. Begin checking emails not marked as urgent
5. Get bored (usually within 30 seconds of checking emails not marked urgent)
6. Check blogs

Now, this is when my morning can go one of two ways.

Option 1) Updated blogs = pleasant surprise, mental escape

Option 2) Same old: Boo.

Selfishly, I’m going to need you to be more committed to this whole blogging venture.

You started it. You asked for this.

Your friend,
“The Creeper”

Yep, that about sums it up. It's how I feel any time my list of blogs to stalk is not updated...and then I realize, I too, am on that list. Kris and I received this email this morning and creeper: duly noted. We promise to take our commitment to provide procrastination entertainment more seriously, and on a more frequent basis.

and that was my night.

Let me set the stage for you:

Thursday night.
7:30pm.
Andy's golfing.
I'm washing bottles.
Emmie just fell asleep.
Tuck jumps to his feet because he sees something out the glass storm door.

And scene:

Tucker bounds down the stairs and does his huffing bark. I immediately follow (bottle and cleany thing in hand, leaving the sink still running) wondering if he's being a moron or if someone is actually at our door. I see a dude at the door and give him the don't ring the doorbell flailing arm gesture, he rings it anyways. So I open the door, pissed that I left it open in the first place. I don't even answer the door on Halloween let alone a random night during the week when I'm home alone with nothing but an ass sniffing smiling dog to defend me.

Tucker slips past me and ass sniffs said dude.  As I try to wrangle him, I dump the bottle full of sudsy formula all over myself as I'm straining to hear if this jackhole woke up the baby. Then, he calls me ma'am. Oh really pal, ma'am?! I wasn't even going to give you the time of day before, but now you're going to get the stink eye while you blah blah blah.  After a few minutes he finally read my body language loud and clear and said, well ma'am it doesn't really seem like you're interested in this. I agreed and bid the dude adieu.

I mean seriously, it's obvious the dude wasn't married. Had he been married he would have known from the first glance of me hauling ass down the stairs that this sale ain't gonna happen. He should have just pretended he was lost and asked for directions to the nearest road or asked where we got that great looking green stuff all over the yard, I would have said oh the grass, yeah we grew that ourselves, have a nice night.

And just to add a few more details to this story: I get back inside and hear silence, thankfully Emmie did not wake up. I head to the sink to turn off the water and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Oh.holy.hell. Sweatpants, super low cut house only v neck, bangs bobby pinned back, no eye makeup or any makeup for that matter...the dude should be thankful I was wearing a bra.

this is what i have to deal with

A little background on the video.

I wanted to record Emmie bouncing her little heart out. It's her new favorite thing...she just bounces...constantly.  I honestly have to look away sometimes because it makes me queasy. I'm not kidding. Up and down....up and down...with a stop every once in a while to watch the dog.

Background on our special dog.

Have you ever used that red laser toy to mess with your pet? Well, we did when Tucker was a puppy. It was hilarious...he would chase that red dot all over the house...yep, all fun and games until fast forward five years and we have a dog that tries to chase and eat any light reflection.  (It's literally been years since he has seen the red dot, but we've clearly damaged him for good.)  When I say he tries to eat light reflections I mean for example, when you're buttering bread and the light catches the knife and reflects a teeny tiny circle on the ceiling...yeah our dog whines and bites and jumps at the air, trying to reach the ceiling.  You should've seen the day my red strobelight-esque Christmas ornament caught light and scattered dozens of red dots over the floor and walls...it got a little hysterical up in here.

Anyways, short story made long....Tucker was getting all up in this bouncy chair's business while I was recording Emmie...then we finally noticed why. Such.a.special.dog.

(If you don't have your sound on, just imagine hearing this dog literally trying to take bites out of the air.)

5.15.2011

thank you baby jesus for finally making the sun shine.

Yes, it is sad that it's May 15th and we're just now sitting on the deck...but the sun felt amazing!  I'm already paranoid about the little munchkin's skin, thankfully we have this adorable hat from cousin Jess to keep the sun out of Emmie's eyes (in a very stylish way).

I don't know what this warm brightness is, but I sure like it.

Mom, can I get a little help here? I can't see, but you just keep taking pictures.

I don't think they could invent a better toy than toes.

My first official stink eye. Put the damn camera down.

5.13.2011

my name is kelsey and i have an addiction

I have isshoes.

See that, see how I was supposed to write issues, but I wrote isshoes instead…because my issue is with my shoes. Clever.

So the shoes.

It was finally time to break out the summer shoe bin (now I have to apologize to everyone in Fargo for doing so because it was 44 freaking degrees today on MAY TWELFTH. Monday it was 77 degrees with ball sweat humidity and today I needed my seat warmer on in the car. Seriously. Why do we live here?)

Anyways. The shoes.

I dumped the bin and started to sort them out. By color, of course. Because all normal people color code everything in their closet. And if you’re super normal, you color code your husband’s stuff too. And you’re a little bummed when you can’t color code the baby’s closet because everything is just pretty much a shade of pink.

Then I noticed a pattern.

Hmm. Does one really need seven pairs of the same color shoe? Apparently if you’re me, the answer is a big fat yes.

Taupe, nude, beige, camel. Thin heel, wedge, pump, thin strappy, chunky strappy.

Oh wait, they’re all different…they’re not the same at all!

I mean, I thought I might have a problem but writing it out, it’s so obvious that I don’t.

Well, that makes me feel better.

Cousins!

So for Mother's Day, we took pics of the grandkids one afternoon (like Vicki doesn't have enough photos already?) and gave them to Grandma.  Well, again I think the outtakes are funnier than the good ones....and I added what I think they might be saying.

5.08.2011

Pre Mother's Day - My Day.

Friends. Food. Sun. Shopping. Cocktails.

A few of my favorite things (minus my two really favorite things: hubby and baby) all rolled into one day. How could I be so lucky?!

The friends and I took an Italian cooking class in downtown Fargo on Saturday afternoon.  So fun. The chef was pretty entertaining and knowledgeable. Please for the love of, do not tell my dad - a chef - that I paid someone to tell me how to cook...lord knows he's been trying to do it for years.  But you know when your dad tells you something and you decide not to listen (much like a husband)? But then a stranger talks and you eat it up like candy? Yep, that's pretty much how it went. Anyways...

We learned how to make caeser dressing from scratch, some soup, an alfredo sauce with homemade noodles, chicken marsala and a chocolate mousse. And the amount of garlic, butter and heavy whipping cream I consumed in a matter of two hours was well, intense. But the wine helped me forget.

Anyways, this chef was full of information and tips. One handy dandy little trick I will share: he was talking about how so many people use fake garlic in lieu of the real deal because of the annoyance of prepping it. So he suggested that you make a ton one day and then toss it with some olive oil in ice cube trays and put them in the freezer and then whenever you need your garlic and olive oil, just pop it right out. Love!

Following our cooking class we walked the streets of downtown Fargo. The weather was amazing. As were the caesers we enjoyed on the patio.

What a delightful day!

So here's to My Day, feel free to join me in celebrating this holiday whenever you choose!

5 months!

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Tengo cinco meses! Yeah, that's right. This baby is bilingual.

5 months old. 15 pounds. And she loves her toes!

And is not happy unless her hand is in her mouth.

And the thing that makes her giggle out loud?

This fool.  In the last couple weeks, Emmie began to notice Tucker. And now she can't take her eyes off of him. And she thinks everything he does is hilarious. Walking, sneezing, licking her head...she loves it all.

5.04.2011

LOVEloveLOVE

Yep, that about sums it up.

5.02.2011

The cough.

I swear the nurses at the children's clinic are paid on commission.

Whenever I call in questioning some symptoms, they say I should bring Emmie in. And then we miraculously get an appointment within the hour. And then I have to haul ass to daycare in the "suburbs" of Fargo and then haul ass back "into town" to the clinic. To arrive just in time to wait twenty minutes to be seen and then wait an additional thirty minutes to see the doctor. And then, I'm told she's fine.

Seriously. (Not like I want her to be sick, but I'm just sayin')

And all the while, did I mention that I didn't have time to go to the bathroom before I left work? And foolishly thought I would be seen promptly by the doctor? I was in pain. Okay, so the last part doesn't happen every time, but it did today, and it was bad.

5.01.2011

Just a picture post.

So glad my daughter is photogenic...

Because Tucker still isn't.
