baby clothes

The thing about babies...they're always growing! Good lord, toes might be crammed in an outfit tonight that fit perfectly this morning.  Of course it is a great excuse to buy more clothes, which is much appreciated.

But, sometimes you buy something because it's functional.  Take for instance a white hoodie.  Perfect addition to any little outfit in the arctic tundra.  It also turns a cute onesie into an actual outfit when you're behind on laundry.

Oh but did you also know that white hoodies for babies aren't easy to come by? So, when I saw Old Navy had this perfect white hoodie, I naturally bought EVERY SIZE.

Keep on growin' kid, mom's got ya covered through 18 months.

oh my gaawd part II

She doesn't have thrush!  She's just got Stage Five Overreacting Mom Syndrome!

Yep, we went to the clinic and Emmie got the all clear signal...she's just an angry little elf going through a phase.

So yeah, I'm sure this won't be the first time I overract, so someone please remind me to stay off the internet!

oh my gaaawd.

I am such.an.ASSHOLE!

So there I was yesterday all ranty and compainy about my little fussy baby....when I finally put the pieces together that she has THRUSH.

Yeah, what the hell is thrush? Oh it's just a yeast infection - OF THE MOUTHHHH. The only reason I even knew what the word was was from doing some creepy creep on some stranger's blog a while back, thank god I did because I never would have thought twice about the symptoms.

I noticed a couple days ago that the back of her tongue was a little white, I figured it was from the formula we had to give her that night...well today I noticed it was still there. WTF. Why is my kid's tongue white? And she's been doing this weird licking thing lately...and she's been super fussy...and her eating habits are all weird...THRUSH. Oh shit. Yeah you'd be fussy too if your mouth hurt like a bitch.

So I had a humongous with tears mini geek out session, composed myself and phoned the clinic.  The meds are on their way.  I didn't even have to bring her in...apparently this is quite common with nursing babies...but still, this is MY baby and I feel like an epic failure.

(After some online research as well I'm coming to find this is a pretty mild case of the T word.)

Needless to say she's gotten nothing but loving all day long. Oh my, let's hope the meds work their magic in no time.

a beer never tasted so good

This is one of those few and far between complainy posts...so deal with it...and I'll be back to normal in the morning.

You know how when someone else's baby cries you just give the kid back to their mom? Yeah, well now I'm the mom. And for some reason my non-crying happy go lucky baby has been replaced with a fussy opposite of happy go lucky little girl.

She's kicking night time sleep ass, so I can't complain about that...but daytime? For some reason she's not interested in naps all of the sudden...or being put down...or being held by anyone but me...which is super fun by the way. Andy can calm her for about 3 seconds before she's passed back to mama.  Oh I hope this little phase ends soon!

It's adorable for about two minutes...you know, no one can make you happy but me...it warms my heart...but then I remember that I haven't eaten or peed in hours and it takes the fun right out of it. Have you ever tried to eat, clean, go to the bathroom or blog with one hand? Not easy.

So it was Andy's main goal at the g-store this evening to bring home anything and everything that might possibly make me happy.  He scored me Oreos and mini Sunkists. Ahhh, straight to my heart.

And he came home to find his baby girl asleep and his mother finishing off a Bud Light. Don't judge me. (I did read in a totally legit online article that the barley in beer increases milk production...so yeah, I'm doing this for her, not me!)

She's still so damn cute though...

they say...

Who are they anyways? And how many children have they raised? Because they sure think they know everything.

Here's some things I've learned my almost 7 weeks of motherhood:

-Breastpads do not work when you put them in backwards.
-Anything with a zipper instead of snaps is my best friend.
-My tiny precious baby girl can make noises from below the belt that wake the dog.
-Somehow, some way babies can blow out the front of an outfit.
-A clean diaper of 30 seconds is an invitation to go again for my kid.
-It's not OCD to keep checking her breathing at night, it's love.
-Even if I haven't eaten, showered or cleaned anything today I'm still up to date of Facebook happenings and blogs. (not proud, not proud.)
-There is quite possibly a tranquilizer of sorts in the lavendar baby body wash...and I approve.
-Keeping track of my baby's "sleep" schedule makes me realize she is way advanced for her age. Like college age advanced...going to sleep around midnight and getting up for the day around 11 (yes she eats a couple times in there too).
-Her current sleep schedule is not going to work well when I go back to work.
-You can pick up on Days of Our Lives after 8 years and connect the pieces.
-Holding a baby while she sleeps is addictive, for me, not the kid.
-Ellen is way better than Oprah.
-I can stay in the house for days on end and be completely content...the frigid temps are helping with that.
-Tucker can hold it the entire day, proven the other day when at 4:30pm I realized he hadn't been let out yet.
-I can hold it the entire day too.
-Saying "dad's home" is music to my ears.

Baptism Day!

Today was baby girl's baptism!

You know those grandiose ideas you have that you never follow through on? Yeah, I have a lot of those.

I had always thought that I (Vicki) would somehow whip my wedding dress into an amazing christening gown for baby - unfortunately I remembered that fantastic idea just two days ago. And while Vicki is amazing, I figured that request would push her right over the edge.

So, I improvised!

I had bought this coat for Emmie to wear because we wanted to keep it casual...and it's January people. I wasn't about to put this little nugget in some silky summer only gown.

I carefully (like I'm going to wear it again some day or something?!) cut some beadwork from my wedding dress and glued it to her buttons! Viola! Just a bit of wedding day memory and bling to start off her baptism day.

And in classic Emmie fashion, she pretty much slept through the main event and the brunch following and the car ride home.

Godparents to the stars, Matt and Alicia started Emmie off on the right (and fashionably classic) foot with an "e" necklace that matches mom's "f". I don't think Thank You quite covers this wonderfully thoughtful and timeless gift...and mom should probably wear it until Emmie grows into it...and dad is hoping she doesn't get used to unwrapping that little blue box!

It's my blog in a book

(You can sing that title to yourself to the tune of a little SNL ditty made popular by Justin Timberlake around Christmas.)

My blogbook arrived and I am thrilled with it!

Using a site called Blurb, I was able to turn my IVF blog into a book...you know, just in case this internet thing doesn't catch on, I can have an old school 120 page hard cover version of the making of Emmie!  The site is really cool and you just have to enter your blog website and it pops all of your posts, photos and comments into a generic book layout.  You can then modify fonts, layout, move your photos around etc.

I'm so excited for her to have keepsake of the journey that brought her to us.

not as expected, hey big shocker.

So...we had our newborn photos taken a while ago. Just this week we got the proof CD and mama is not happy. I'm afraid I put this out to the Universe before the photos were taken; for some reason I just knew it wasn't going to work out. Damn me and my magical powers.

Obviously the subject could not be cuter or more perfect if she tried, but the photographer and I clearly had a different vision. I had to pull her baby announcement out of my ass, but thankfully I like a challenge and I think it turned out pretty great. And of course I paid an excessive amount to expedite the shipping because she's almost a toddler by now. (I'll post it once all is said and done.)

For now, here are some other photos that didn't make me barf...because damn she's cute if I do say so myself. Not biased at all by the way.

Thumbs down photographer - my thoughts exactly kid.

Because dads are still men

...then dads are from Mars too.  Naturally, we do things differently.

Not bad different, just different.

Like when Andy and I were discussing how much our little baby girl is growing...I don't think I would've thought to bust out the made for big house projects tape measure:

She's grown a couple inches according to this totally accurate measurement.

ONE MONTH!

A one month old?! No way! Here's my baby girl getting all grown up all of the sudden...

free at last

Oh the joy of being un-snowed in!  How sad is it that I was pumped to get ready for the day and go to Walmart?! Sick and wrong.

After an amazing night...amazing meaning Emmie slept from 8pm to 2am, hung out bright eyed and curious until 4am and then slept until 8am...I was up and raring to go. Too bad the plows still hadn't made their way to our house, so I was raring to go no where.

We were finally plowed out and dropped Emmie off and Grandma and Grandpa's and hit up Walmart.  It's a new Walmart, so it's no that bad...but still...it's Walmart.

Then we headed to the Bulldog Tap and enjoyed clamato beer and greasy burgers.  Oh how divine.

And now it's 9:45pm...otherwise known as way past my bedtime.

Isn't this blog uber fun and interesting to read?!
