like sands through the hour glass, so is the feeling in my eyes

I had Lasik on Thursday! And it obviously worked because I can see what I'm typing.

So, the details:

Got to the clinic at 1pm and popped my Valium. Thankyouverymuch. Went over some last minute items, whipped out the credit card and signed my eyeballs away.

Then the freaky, alienesque procedure began. I knew I was going to have to stare at a red dot during the process...but I kinda forgot that I would be able to see everything else that was going on too. Like the doc slicing the top layer of my eyeball off and moving it, caareeeepy. One eye is taped shut while the one being worked on is pried open with some archaic tool.  Anyways, it was over in minutes...but then it dawned on me...shit, there's another eye to do.

So the procedure was done and all was well, except for my inability to open my eyes because I was so afraid my eye was going to pop out of it socket.

Andy picked me up and I went home in my goggles and killer glaucoma sunglasses.

Then I was supposed to take a nap.

Now, we all know that I can nap like a champ. But this time, no dice. I'm not sure how one is supposed to nap when it feels like a handful of sand has been mashed in your eye. They burned, like real bad.  And they were watering so much I thought I was going to float away.

So I pretty much just stayed in bed the whole evening and of course it had to be on the nicest day of the year. Mom came over to play with Emmie, so Andy and Tuck could play outside.  The nice thing about being laid up in bed all sorts of blind was everything I was able to hear. Emmie squealing with delight over Tucker just being Tucker, Andy making dinner and mom doing her grandma thing entertaining the babe.

And just a few days after the procedure my vision is awesome. I can see down the street, but things are still a little hazey. Hopefully by my next week's follow up appointment all will be perfect. But I am already so thrilled not to have to worry about glasses or contacts!

hey that's my kid!

Finally the blog post of Emmie's three month photo shoot is out there! Click here!

Thanks Tiny Sprout!

And of course we got suckered into their BeanSprout plan...so we'll be back at 6, 9, and 12 months.

Never wake a sleeping baby.

Why.

Why would anyone ever, ever test that theory?

Because their baby, in her normal Monday routine of falling asleep for the night at 6:30pm was something to be messed with?

Who cares if she was still in her daycare outfit.

Who cares if her pants were probably going to cutoff her tummy circulation all night.

Who cares if her onesie was so drool soaked it was like she was in a wet t-shirt contest.

Well, we cared...and then we paid for it.

The charge? A two hour bedtime routine.

What a rookie mistake.

There were tears, followed by smiles. Shrieks followed by laughs and bright eyes...immediately followed by drooping eyelids and crying. She was on a roller coaster and unfortunately we just had to ride it out.

Now we know.

Don't test the theory. Don't change the baby mid slumber and think you're going to get away with it. And trust when your gut it is saying (undoubtedly in slow motion) noooo....dooooon't touccch herrrr!

sarcasm. it's what's for dinner.

So, for the past few months all I have heard about from Emmie is how sore her feet are. She just goes on and on about her flat little feet. Seriously, she just won't stop yapppping about her arches.  I'm assuming it's all of the running she's been doing lately. But it's just so hard to find something supportive for these little infant feet.

Well low and behold.

Thank you baby jesus for inventing baby socks with arch support...I don't think we could have survived another week without them.

weekend

Oh it was a weekend. Filled with good and some bad...but the good will always win a blog post.

It was cousin Toddy's wedding this weekend and we had all sorts of fun! It's a new experience getting me and a baby ready for events! You know, picking out the outfits, getting accessories...and then racing out to do it all over again because mother nature decided to dump snow on the city in April.

I had Emmie's dresses but it was a chore and half to make them winter appropriate. Apparently selling solid color anythings in infant sizing is not a store priority. Anyways we made it work. Of course I wasn't thinking ahead enough to get my butt on Etsy.com to find matching headbands...so I had to do some handy work myself.  Elastic. Flowers. Beads. Done. Suck it Etsy.

Finally, an occasion for the little black dress! We still haven't perfected the family photo. You work so hard to get the baby smiling and the photo snaps as she's looking adorable and mom and dad are looking like fools. We opted for smiling parents in this one.

And here is the wedding day outfit...made possible with Grandma's sewing skills, taking the lavender trim off the brown top. This is the 2.8 seconds that the tulle dress was not crammed in her mouth. (I mean, I know I'm biased and all...but can she be any cuter?!)

And here are the adults of the weekend. Emmie had another sleepover at Gma and Gpa's so mom and dad could have a good night out. We didn't even get the pick up call until after her morning nap...thank you Grandparents!

We had so much fun at the Phi Delt reunion wedding. But really, there were Phi Delts as far as the eye could see. But this time almost every one of them had a baby in hand instead of a can of Natty Light. Oh how the times have changed.

And the hubby. As always, you are my favorite. The good. The bad. The drama. The fun. We're in it together and together we'll be.

Nothing better.

The sleeping baby on your chest.

If I could bottle it, I would.

I'd take a sip of the concoction when feeling down, when life hands me a card I'm not interested in, or any time I just need to invigorate my soul.

With the growing baby getting more and more active, these sleepy afternoons are getting few and far between.

But I had my dose for an hour this afternoon and then dad got his.

The stress of a hectic weekend melts away with each breath in.

It makes you forget the outside world for a few minutes and remember what is really important and really worth your time and it's exactly what I needed.

The Fam.

I'm not talking about me, hubby, babe and Tuck.

I'm not even talking about grandma and grandpa.

I'm talking about the whole kit and kaboodle.

I love my family. I have the kind of family where a cousin is more like a friend. Where you don't get together for holidays and weddings, you get together all the time. And people drive miles because they haven't seen the babies in way too long.

It was a random Friday night gathering at Grandma's....just aunts and uncles and grandkids and cousins and great grandma.  Pizza and toys and playing on the floor and it was perfect.

Olivia, Emmie and EmaRae

Cousin Lexi...you just hurry up and get married before you start with the baby fever.

Grandma!

4 months

4 months: I'm very smiley. I love my Teddy and Jailbird.
(Mom and dad feel the need to name all of my toys.)
I also love my hands, they are red and sad looking from constantly being in my mouth.

I'm two days into daycare and so far so good.
I took a three hour nap today and fell asleep at 7:15pm.

This is my new favorite thing, feet in the air.
I'm working on my lower abs.
I weigh 14 pounds and I'm a whole 2 feet tall!

And who doesn't love some baby butt bling? Mom sure does.

4.04.2011

It was a day of firsts:

First day of daycare.  There were a few tears from mom this morning, but baby was all smiles. We got to the infant room and settled in...it was pretty cute when another little one crawled over and pulled himself up on Emmie's car seat to see who the new kid in class was. And then the lady started to unbuckle her and I walked out with a short "gotta go" while I bit my lip and fought back tears. (I emailed the owner just to check in and she replied "such a good baby, happy as can be."  Honestly, I don't even care if she was lying, it was exactly what I needed to hear!)

First time hearing that! I picked Emmie up after work and she was mid nap.  And the coolest thing happened. I walked in and I said I was Kelsey and one of the gals turned to the other and said "that's Emmie's mom."  I know! I am!! I don't think I've actually been referred to as Emmie's mom and I sure do like the sound of it!

First take home bag from daycare. Everyone commented on what a happy, laid back little person she was, just taking it all in.  Her naps were short and eating sporadic, but you can't win 'em all.  Oh and we were already delivered an outfit in a baggie...that's a special treat from the new kid.

First after school gossip hour. And when we got home, I thought Emmie would be all sorts of tired. But instead she was just talking up a storm...I suppose she was filling me in on all the hot daycare gossip...I can't wait to hear the rest of the details tomorrow!

First day of school photos!

4.03.2011

Well here I am.

Crying again.

The little miss starts daycare tomorrow.  And while sending her to daycare isn't something I'm nervous about or think is a bad thing, it's just a lot to take in.  Thank god I've already had about a month to adjust to being back at work.

On the one hand I know she is going to be so well taken care of. I know she's going to love interacting with other babies. I know they will teach her all sorts of new things. And I know I can't stay home full time.

But on the other hand I know she's going to be spending more time with her daycare family than her own. I know she'll probably start calling the teacher mom. And I know I'm never getting this time back. Ever.

So I let my mixed emotions get the best of me while I prepare her daycare bag.

Bottles. ::Whimper::

Extra outfits and loads of diapers. ::Pouty lip::

Soft white cozy blanket that we've wrapped her up with since we brought her home from the hospital all teeny tiny and now she's a big girl and I have to ship this blanky off to daycare so she has at least a little something to remind her of home. ::Sob::

I'm doing my darnedest to get out of attending the first drop off...but I figure if I try not attend everything I might cry at, I'll pretty much miss her entire life. So I'll suck it up, and count down the hours to pick up...looking forward to that smile and giggle when she recognizes me at the door. ::Tears again::

I've still got it.

Bikini body?

No.

Baby brain?

YES.

Today was Emmie's 4 month appointment (don't even get me started on how in the world she's been here almost 4 months).

I had to meet Andy and babe at the clinic.

I got to the parking lot, searched for the white Honda Pilot, realized I beat them there, parked and waited.

And waited.

And watched the road for the white Honda Pilot with husband and baby in tow.

And checked the clock.

And waited.

Jeez. Where are they?

And literally minutes later I realized, I AM SITTING IN THE WHITE HONDA PILOT.

Damnit.
